Outstanding Success for the Project Teaching in Diversity (Teach-D)

Almost all aspects of our everyday life are affected by diversity. Respect for and tolerance to diversity are fundamental European values. However, achieving those values appears to be challenging for many societies. Acknowledging that educational institutions are a place where diversities meet and interact daily, plus that they are the first pillar of the societal integration and acculturation, teachers seem to be the key actors when it comes to diversity management at school.

That is why Teach-D focuses primarily on teachers and trainers. Teachers face diversity and problems related to it every day. With regard to respectful cooperation, they do not only have to be a role model themselves but also need to solve diversity problems that already exist within the classroom. During the last two years, the Teach-D team of ECMI and its partners have developed a set of interactive products to facilitate diversity management in the field of education.

Teach-D products:

In the project frameworks, the Teach-D team has developed a face to face training course, covering six key topics related to diversity and relevant to the field of education (i.e. diversity management, hate speech, linguistic and religious diversity at school). The international consortium also generated a training course for trainers of the face to face training (the ToT methodology). In addition to a supplemental online-platform for self-learning, a smartphone application has been created. The application enables educators all over Europe to provide support to each other on diversity issues in classrooms – independent of language capacities. Auxiliary, the international consortium developed a handbook (in 6 languages – German, Romanian, English, Polish, Italian, Bulgarian and English) with extra-information, materials on the topics and suggested resources.

The closing partner meeting:

At the closing partner meeting (25 – 26 October 2018 at the ECMI in Flensburg), where the ECMI team has consulted partners on the final financial arrangements and finalization of the products, it was decided to expand the website and to add a photo gallery.

The Teach-D multiplier event:

The Teach-D multiplier event (Alexandria/ Romania, 8 November 2018) attracted a lot of attention among the local media in Romania and even made it to the Romanian TV:

The final event:

At the upcoming final event, on 29 November 2018, the project will exhibit its products for the very first time in Flensburg. After the event, the participants will be able not only to enjoy the process of self-development but also to test some of the practices first-hand.
